As vegans make up a larger portion of the market and consumers become environmentally aware – and also for economic reasons – more car companies are beginning to offer completely leather-free interiors and alternatives.
Some car companies, such as Kia and Mercedes, not only offer textile interiors but also completely synthetic leather interiors.
The much pricier but very progressive electric car manufacturer Tesla is moving away from leather altogether, acknowledging that it would be counter their environmental goals.
